     Martha 'Mat' Ford Hills was born on 19 March 1876 in Detroit, MI. She and Frank Holmes Curry were engaged on 17 August 1899 in Minneapolis, MN. Martha 'Mat' Ford Hills married Frank Holmes Curry, son of Edward Curry and Margaret Seaton Dougan, on 24 May 1904 in St. Paul, MN; married by Rev. C. E. Haupt. Martha 'Mat' Ford Hills died on 12 October 1956 in Westbury, Long Island, NY, at age 80.
     Her married name was Curry. She In the summer of 1899 Frank and Martha were engaged to be married. Martha stayed in Minneapolis and Frank went back to New York City. For the next five years Frank and Martha communicated by mail. After a five year engagement, they were married in 1904, by the Reverend Charles E. Haupt, husband of Frank's 1st. cousin, Alexandria Dougan. After Martha's birth, the family moved from Detroit, Michigan to Cleveland, Ohio, then to Dayton, Ohio. The family left Dayton about 1885, and moved to Lake City, Minnesota, on Lake Pepin, about 50 miles from St. Paul. When Martha was 10 years old the family moved to St. Paul. She entered the University of Minnesota in 1895, after graduation from St. Paul High School. She moved to Minneapolis in the summer of 1895. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1899. She first met Frank Holmes Curry on August 8th, 1897 in her house at 8th Street South, Minneapolis. He had come along with the Chapmans to visit the family. Mrs. Chapmans younger brother, Edgar Haupt, had married Alexandra V. Dougan. In 1900, a teacher once wrote of her ' She is a thorough student, careful, systematic and forceful. ....she has taken a full four year course at the University of Minnesota and graduated with honor. Her special work is Latin and history but she possesses a general culture that fits her for other work. Her character is above reproach...'
