Frank Holmes Curry
Frank Holmes Curry was a lawyer. He attended Trinity Church School, in New York City. He graduated from Columbia College, A.B. in 1898, and New York Law School, L.L.B. 1900. He was vice President of his senior class at Columbia.
When the Spanish-American War broke out in 1898, and volunters were called for, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was assigned to the delicate and courageous duty of protecting the coast from possible invasion, by serving on the mine-sweeper USS Restless. After the war was over, he remained in the New York Naval Reserve until he was honorably discharged in 1904. He also served in the 101st Cavalry, New York National Guard from 1912 to 1913.
Frank began his law career, in 1899, as an understudy at the law offices of Lyman A. Spalding, of New York City. In 1902 he began a law practice with the law firm of Murphy, Curry, and Gannon, of New York City. Later he was to practice in the law firm of Curry & Curry, in Baldwin, Long Island, New York. He and his son Frank Jr. had a general law practice, specializing particularly in organization and labor matters. In 1932 he was elected to the Board of Education of Baldwin, Long Island, New York. During most of his working years he was General Counsel and Secretary of the shoe Manufacturers Board of Trade, of the City of New York.
