Henry Dougan

Henry Dougan was baptized in Episcopal Church. He was born on 1 February 1821 in Newton, Hamilton Co., Armagh, Ireland. He married Christine Miller Pirnie, daughter of Peter Pirnie and Isabella Flockhart, on 6 May 1847 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Henry Dougan died on 15 July 1896 in St. Paul, MN, at age 75.
Henry Dougan Henry had only 19 months schooling, a few months at a time. He left Ireland in 1842 for Quebec, Canada by sailing ship. The ship took about two months to reach Canada. He moved to Montreal, where he worked for a Mr. Fraser for about 14 years. After he and Christine were married, they moved to Kingston, Ontario, Canada where he worked for a Mr. George (?). He and Christine moved to St. Paul, Minnesota in 1862. He was to join his brother in business, but declined the partnership when he found out that his brother was doing business partly on borrowed money. He then worked for William Temple in the clothing business until Mr. Temple closed his business in 1870. Henry never became a citizen of the United States, preferring to remain, as he said, 'a subject of the Queen.' He immigrated in 1842 to Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
